An eye on the whiskey war

There’s nothing like Jack Daniel’s Old Time Tennessee Whiskey — unless Diageo has its way. The British drinks firm, whose brands include Smirnoff, Guinness and Baileys, has got into a brawl with the US liquor label over the right to also call one of its products a “Tennessee Whiskey”.

The outcome of the legal dispute will be of interest to one of London’s popular new hostesses. Brooke Barzun, wife of the US Ambassador, is heiress to the Jack Daniel’s whiskey empire.

The Londoner would never take sides in a liquor-off but we do hope nothing gets in the way of the informal bourbon and beer music sessions the Barzuns have been hosting at Winfield House.
