A national treasure: Octavia Hill, remembered

Bigwigs from the National Trust, including director-general Dame Fiona Reynolds, were today at Westminster Abbey to remember the Trust’s co-counder Octavia Hill, who died 100 years ago.

“Today we are celebrating beauty: the wonder of creation, and the impact — for good and ill — of humanity on that inheritance,” said Dame Fiona . “We are doing so through the eyes of Octavia Hill, a social reformer and housing pioneer whose efforts led to the establishment of the National Trust.” Among those celebrating beauty were Dan Cruickshank and Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen.
