A woman has died and a man is fighting for his life after an early morning crash near Wandsworth Prison.

The couple were being chased by police over suspicions that they were flying a drone into the prison before they crashed on Ashcombe Street

Emergency services were called to Wandsworth Bridge Road around 3.15am to reports of a collision.

It is believed that the car they were travelling in overturned after hitting a wall.

An LAS spokeswoman said: "Sadly a woman died at the scene.

"A man was taken as a priority to a major trauma centre in south London."

Wandsworth Bridge Road remains closed between Kings Road and Townmead Road while police deal with the incident.

A spokeswoman for police watchdog the IPCC confirmed investigators were at the scene and were looking into the case.
