Stars of the West End stage will come together for a concert to raise money for victims of the Philippines typhoon.
You’ll Never Walk Alone — The West End Unites For The Philippines will feature Avenue Q singing star Julie Atherton, two-time Olivier Award- winner Joanna Riding, and multiple nominees Hannah Waddingham and Michael Xavier. It will also star several Filipino artistes including Joseph Apostol, who competed in the BBC’s The Voice, and classical pianist Emmanuel Vass. The evening is at the Queen’s Theatre on Sunday, 2 March.
Producer Cameron Mackintosh, who owns the theatre, said: “The Philippines have been a special part of my life ever since I first went there 25 years ago to cast the original production of Miss Saigon. As well as being an exceptionally talented nation, the people I have met are also warm, generous and good-hearted human beings who have become our friends.
“The recent terrible natural disaster there has affected so many people and, along with the international aid, I am only too happy to offer the use of the Queen’s Theatre for a fund-raising performance led by stars of the Philippines and the West End to help gather as much money as possible for those in desperate need.”
All proceeds from the concert will be going directly to the Disasters Emergency Committee. The organisation’s chief executive Saleh Saeed said: “This promises to be a real highlight, and it is wonderful to have a cast that includes so many Filipino performers. We are also extremely grateful to producer Paul Spicer and Cameron Mackintosh and Delfont Mackintosh Theatres for their roles in this wonderful event.”
