Waitrose staff in south-east London banded together for an unlikely collaboration when they recorded a spoof version of smash hit Uptown Funk.

Employees at the supermarket's Bromley branch filmed the parody of the Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars hit during opening hours in front of perplexed shoppers.

Around 40 staff members were involved in the effort, in which they donned sunglasses and lip-synced their way through a three minute rendition of the hit.

Waitrose Operations Manager Kerry Farwell-Stacey told the News Shopper: “It was a bit of fun, every year each branch holds its own AGM and in order to make this as interesting and engaging as possible this year we decided to do a spoof music video.

“We decided on Uptown Funk as its good fun and lots of people know it."

Shoppers were apparently left to go about their business as usual during filming of the video.

Daniel Briant commented on the YouTube video: "So that's what was happening when I went in to grab some food! Wondered why everyone looked blinged up!"

A Waitrose spokesman: "Our Partners go to great efforts to bring a smile to their annual general meetings and Bromley South Partners have certainly risen to the occasion."

Uptown Funk spent seven weeks at number one in the UK singles chart after its release in November last year.
