Vandals daub 'yuppies out' and 'class war' on trendy south London flats

Graffiti: the gallery after the incident
Robin de Peyer31 December 2015

Vandals daubed graffiti which reads "yuppies out" onto the wall of an upmarket block of flats in a trendy part of south London.

'Yuppies out' and 'Class war' were sprayed onto a whitewashed wall on Lamb Walk Se1, opposite the White Cube gallery in Bermondsey last night.

A business owner who works nearby suggested the area may have been targeted by people who see it as a "symbol of gentrification".

"The graffiti attack comes as local businesses claimed stickers have started appearing in the area warning of a "f*** parade" similar to the anti-gentrification protest that descended on Brick Lane's Cereal Killer Cafe in September.

The Evening Standard has approached the gallery for a comment.

This story was amended to reflect that the graffiti was opposite the gallery, not on a wall of the gallery on 31/12/2015
