The UK's largest urban beach has opened at the Olympic Park in east London.
Some 1,000 tons of sand has been shovelled into a space the size of two Olympic swimming pools beside the canal in Stratford.
Featuring two bars, a large paddling pool and a funfair, Beach East opened to the public amid glorious sunshine on Saturday.
Sun-worshippers will be able to visit sandy site, which park bosses light-heartedly boast is Britain's answer to Bondi Beach in Sydney, throughout the summer.
Yards from the Olympic Stadium, the urban oasis will be open daily between 10am-10pm until the end of August.
On the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park website, bosses said the spot was the country's "largest urban beach by far".
"[It] will feature a vast area of fine, deep sand, a huge kid’s paddling pool, funfair rides, two beach bars and a host of sporting events and activities," they wrote.
"Boasting one thousand tons of sand spread over 2,200 sq metres of Stratford Waterfront (almost the size of two Olympic swimming pools), the beach will overlook the canal, Stadium and the beautiful parklands.
"Along with a huge paddling pool beside it, BeachEast will be Britain’s answer to Bondi this summer."
