A london musician and his band took over Piccadilly Circus to celebrate their revival of a 102-year-old music hall number.
Former Jocasta frontman Tim Arnold, now known as the Soho Hobo, has recorded The Piccadilly Trot, made famous in 1912 by singer Marie Lloyd, after being introduced to it by his girlfriend, EastEnders star Jessie Wallace, who played Lloyd in a 2007 film.
The single comes out on vinyl on Saturday, followed a month later by a video of a flash mob performance organised in Piccadilly Circus with 100 people doing the Trot dance routine. It is said to have been popular long before Londoners were doing the Lambeth Walk. Arnold, 38, the son of former cabaret entertainer Polly Perkins and whose grandparents toured with comic Max Miller in the 1940s, said watching Wallace play the Queen of Music Halls reignited his interest in his family’s heritage.
The couple, together for two years, also sing a romantic ballad called Soho Sunset together on his new album.
