Hundreds of people staged a third day of peaceful protests in Trafalgar Square in support of the anti-government unrest in Turkey.

Eda Hardy, 40, an accountant from Buckinghamshire, said: “My 23-year-old niece and nephew were protesting against the government in Ankara and were bombed with tear gas and pepper gas. They were peacefully protesting and police vehicles drove through the crowd. If the situation does not change for the better in the next couple of days I will go out and fight beside them.”

Halil Mehmet, 17, from Hackney said: “My dad was injured when police threw tear gas.” A protest was due today outside the Turkish Embassy in Belgrave Square.
