Summer of arts online

10 April 2012

Popular events from the spectacular Olympic summer of arts are to be made available online.

Members of the public who cannot get tickets for talks in Ai Weiwei's Serpentine Pavilion, Sadler's Wells hip hop festival or Shakespeare in 37 languages from the Globe, will be able to view them on a new digital channel being launched by the BBC and Arts Council England.

More than 50 organisations are being given funding to develop work for the channel, called The Space, which will run from May until October.

It will be available on smartphones, tablets and smart TV as well as the internet and on Freeview HD and Freesat.

Announcing details today, BBC executive Roly Keating said that by sharing the corporation's technical skills with the Arts Council they could make "something really special happen to celebrate 2012's unique summer".
