North London's Latin Village is a little slice of South America hidden away in Tottenham

Hidden away off one of London's busiest roads lies a microcosm of South America.

The Latin Village on Seven Sisters Road bustles with a community of young and old who come to get their haircut, eat traditional food or play dominoes.

Family-run shops and restaurants ply their trade in one of the capital's largest hubs for the South American community.

The village is under threat however, with developers eyeing up the prime real estate it sits on in Tottenham.

Barry Macdonald, 35, grew up in the area and has seen the market blossom over the years.

His stunning photos tell the story of a small piece of a far away continent nestled off one of London's main arteries.

He told the Standard: "The market is in an old department store building.

“The store and building closed in the 70s for a few years before it reopened and the market moved in.

“It’s really nice there. Everyone is speaking Spanish everywhere."

Mr Macdonald added: “People just hang out - it’s a real sense of community.

“There’s a big Colombian presence, but there are people from all over South America."

“Some pioneers came over and told people back home. People come from as far as Epping Forest for food and south London for their haircut.

“You’ve got a Costa on the corner selling coffee for three or four pounds, or you can go into the market and get a genuine Columbian coffee for a pound.”
