Soho power cut: Londoners joke about 'pitch Black Friday' after electricity outage hits London's West End

Londoners joked a widespread power cut in the capital’s West End was "pitch Black Friday” as it coincided with the annual shopping frenzy.

The busy Soho entertainment district, which was packed with tourists, Black Friday shoppers and people out to enjoy nightlife, was hit by a power failure on Friday evening.

Bemused Londoners and tourists flooded social media with jokes about the blackout with many saying it was “the real Black Friday".

Joe Rackham tweeted: "Peculiar and eerie power cut in parts of Soho, Regent Street and Piccadilly Circus. Famous ads pitch black. Black Friday, literally."

Katie tweeted: "Certainly is Black Friday for me, more like pitch black Friday!"

Arwen G wrote: “Soho is experience a literal Black Friday.”

Jemma wrote: "Power cut in Soho. Pitch Black Friday."
