Road blocked as van slips on its side in South London

A van flipped onto its side and blocked a busy road in south London this morning.

Police and the London Ambulance Service were called to the incident in New Kent Road, in Elephant and Castle, at 5.45am.

It is believed the van hit a road sign and flipped onto its side.

An ambulance crew treated a man for a leg injury and took him to a south London hospital.

A spokeswoman for the LAS said: "We were called at 5.45am this morning, we sent an ambulance crew.

"We treated one patient, a man, for a leg injury and he was taken to hospital."

New Kent Road has since re-opened, but traffic is reported to be slow in the area.

Police are investigating.
