Police are hunting for a pair of thugs who allegedly attacked a commuter for answering his phone on board a train.

One attacker is alleged to have swore at the 27-year-old victim when he began speaking on the phone, before hitting him, a police spokesman said today.

A second man then pinned the commuter to his seat and joined in the attack just after 7pm on February 20, he added.

The group then got off the train at Stanford-le-Hope station in Essex and the victim's attackers continued to threaten him.

Detectives investigating the attack on the train, which was travelling between Pitsea and Stanford-le-Hope stations, today released CCTV pictures of two men they want to question as part of their enquiries.

Detective Constable Sally Everritt, who is leading the investigation, said: “There is no excuse for violence on the rail network, and the actions of the men involved in this assault were totally unjustified.

“I am confident the men in the images we are issuing today can help with out enquiries. Who are they?”
