Plus-size store sets up campaign to challenge fat-shaming Tube flyer

Positive: Leaflets telling people they look great have been handed out on the Tube

A campaign has been set up telling commuters that they “look great” after women on the Tube were handed leaflets by strangers accusing them of being “fat, ugly humans”.

Police have said they are investigating after the flyers, said to be from a group calling itself Overweight Haters Ltd, were given out on the Underground.

NHS worker Karla Florish, 30, posted a copy of the leaflet online after a stranger handed it to her at Warren Street station at the weekend.

It read: “Our organisation hates and resents fat people. We object to the enormous amount of food resources you consume while half the world starves.

"We also object that the beautiful pig is used as an insult. You are not a pig. You are a fat, ugly human.”

In response plus-size clothing retailer navabi has started handing out its own cards reading: “You look great”.

Spokeswoman Michelle Cato said: “When we found out about the fat-shaming flyers we were disgusted. They are frankly abhorrent. We want to boost people’s confidence and tell them they are fine as they are.”

The firm called on Londoners to print off their cards, which can be found on the brand’s Twitter feed, and give them out to commuters on the Tube.

British Transport Police appealed to the public for any information on the Overweight Haters Ltd leaflets.
