Oi ref, you’re falling asleep... the 72-hour five-a-side game

Footballers were today attempt to break the world record for the longest five-a-side match by playing on a London pitch for 72 hours non-stop.

Sixteen men will play the equivalent of 48 regular-length games back-to-back, taking turns to take a nap on the bench.

The challenge by the amateur players to beat the current 43-hour record is happening at Westway Sports Centre in North Kensington.

The players hope to raise £10,000 in aid of the charity Inspiring Futures Uganda.
