The new route has been announced for the Prudential RideLondon FreeCycle, which will see hundreds of Londoners take to two wheels this summer.

The event will return to the capital on Saturday, July30, with an enhanced route and a new Festival Zone on the Southbank, and as usual, bike doctors will be on hand in case of any technical problems..

This year the event, which is part of a festival of cycling led by the Mayor of London’s office, will showcase new areas of the capital, taking in the Strand and Lincoln’s Inn Fields as well as Victoria Embankment, while also adding in a section of the newly opened East-West Cycle Superhighway (CS3).

The eight-mile circuit will pass iconic London landmarks including Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, St Paul’s Cathedral and the Bank of England before going south of the river with a loop over Waterloo Bridge.

There will also be entertainment on offer, including from Andrei Burton, one of the world’s top stunt cyclists, who will star in an International Urban Trials competition that will take centre stage in Green Park.

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said: “I want to make London a byword for cycling and thousands of people of all ages and abilities will take to two wheels for Prudential RideLondon FreeCycle.

"It’s a particularly good opportunity for Londoners who would like to cycle, but don’t currently feel comfortable doing so, to build their confidence on a route that takes in some of the most iconic sights of our city.”
