A motorcyclist is in hospital with potentially life-changing injuries after a crash with a van in central London this morning.

The collision, at around 7.45am, led to the closure of the busy Edgware Road southbound near the junction with George Street.

A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We were called to a collision between a van and a motorcycle.

"Paramedics treated a man with multiple injuries to his leg, chest and shoulder.

"He was taken to St Mary's Hospital as a priority."

The incident caused severe delays in the area, with the road only reopening southbound at around 2.30pm.

A police spokesman said: "It looks like his injuries are potentially life-changing but not life-threatening.

"The road has reopened and no arrests have been made."
