Man killed after fire breaks out at block of flats in west London

A man has been killed after fire broke out at a converted house in west London last night.

Seven other people escaped unharmed from the flats in Vale Grove, Acton, before firefighters arrived at about 11pm.

The body of the man, who has not been identified, was found in the ground floor flat.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and is believed to have died in the blaze, though a post-mortem has not yet taken place.

Some 21 firefighters battled the flames for nearly an hour.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
