A man is fighting for his life after being hit by a car in west London in the early hours of this morning.

Police said the man, aged in his late teens or early 20s, underwent surgery today after the collision near Shepherd's Bush Market station.

The man was taken to hospital with head injuries after the incident, at around 2.30am. He had surgery at around 6.10am and is still believed to be in a critical condition.

Police could not confirm whether there were any arrests.

A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We were called just before 2.30am today to reports of a road traffic collision involving a pedestrian and a car on Uxbridge Road.

“We treated a man, reported to be in his 20s, for head injuries. He was taken to St Mary’s Major Trauma Centre as a priority.”

Uxbridge Road was closed for several hours in both directions after the incident.

Transport for London said it reopened at around 7.30 this morning.
