Two lorries and three cars were involved in a major pile-up on the North Circular Road today after a heavy goods vehicle crossed a central reservation and shed its load.

Three people were injured in the multiple collisions outside the Park Royal industrial park in northwest London around 12.30pm.

A lorry travelling northbound is believed to have crashed into the barrier sending its container falling into the path of oncoming southbound traffic and sparking a series of collisions.

A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said three people were taken to hospital with minor injuries. A man was taken to St Mary’s Hospital with neck pain while two other men were taken to Middlesex Hospital with shoulder injuries.

Police said the road had been reduced to one lane of traffic while the clean-up operation is under way.
