London may be hotter than Monaco and Istanbul over the weekend as temperatures rocket to almost 30C, the Met Office said.

It is forecast to peak on the day of the men’s Wimbledon final this Sunday with highs of 29 also expected on Friday and Saturday.

Early signs show the warmth could be felt into next week.

Met Office spokesman Stephen Dixon said London is set to feel the sun with temperatures well in excess of July’s average of 23 degrees.

But it is unlikely to topple the 32 degrees felt in Heathrow earlier this year - the current record for 2022.

The highest temperatures across London have been forecast for Heathrow.

“There is much to play for, but it is forecast that much of the south will be experiencing warm temperatures,” Mr Dixon said.

“It is expected to continue to rise next week.”

London is likely to see high temperatures of 23 to 25 degrees from Monday to Thursday with a mixture of sunny and cloudy intervals.

Mr Dixon said the heat was a result of the Azores High, a weather effect that stems from hot air from the Atlantic Ocean.

He added: “It is above the average for the area but it is not beyond the realms of the norm.”
