London weather: Capital faces hail and thunderstorms as remnants of Tropical Storm Henri hit city

Miserable: 'Heavy' showers are set to hit the capital

London could be hit by thunderstorms and hail as the tail end of a tropical storm begins to sweep across the capital.

After warm and bright Saturday Londoners today face showers that are set to foreshadow even harsher weather from the start of the week, forecasters said.

The Met Office said "heavy" showers possibly accompanied by hail and thunder would hit the capital on Monday, with strong winds and further lashings of rain expected later in the week.

It comes as the remnants of tropical storm Henri, which has been battering the Caribbean, arrived on British shores.

Met Office forecaster Craig Snell previously told the Standard: “On Sunday there are a few showers around but for the main bulk of the day it’s not looking too bad.

“But towards the end of the day it goes downhill with frequent spells of rain, and the wind also increases. The most unsettled spell for the south east looks like from the end of play on Sunday.

"Monday up to Wednesday looks quite unsettled.”
