These dramatic pictures show the devastation caused as flames raged through a 27-storey tower block in Notting Hill.
The inferno ripped through the tower as hundreds of fire fighters, police and paramedics were scrambled to the scene near Ladbroke Grove.
Burning debris could be seen crashing down the side of the Grenfell Tower in Lancaster West estate as flames engulfed the block from the second floor upwards.
Horrifying images show the people who appear to be trapped in the building at their windows as the fire wraps around it.
Others show the scale of huge plumes of smoke billowing in to the air as fire crews tackle the towering blaze that was raging from the early hours of Wednesday morning.
One pictures a number of fighter fighters preparing to enter the building as the fire still raged on.
A number of fleets of emergency services can be seen surrounding the area in west London, as shocked on-lookers watch the terrifying scenes continue.
Another reveals the damage caused to the charred tower as water jets douse the flames in North Kensington.
Witnesses described the “horrible scenes” and London Fire Brigade has confirmed “a number of fatalities”. They could not say how many were killed due to the “complexity” of the operation.
Forty fire engines with 200 officers were called shortly before 1am as the fire rapidly engulfed the block “within seconds.”
The cause of the fire is not known at this stage, London Fire Brigade said.
London Ambulance Service said 30 people had been taken to five hospitals following the fire. Witnesses reported other people trapped on the upper storeys.
London Fire Brigade assistant commissioner Dan Daly said: "Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are working extremely hard in very difficult conditions to tackle this fire.
"This is a large and very serious incident and we have deployed numerous resources and specialist appliances."
