A man is fighting for life after crashing his car into a lamppost on a major east London road.

The man, aged in his 30s, was driving westbound along the A12, near the Leytonstone junction, when the incident happened early on Sunday morning.

Police, paramedics and firefighters rushed to scene shortly before 5am.

The driver was taken to an east London hospital where he remains in a critical condition, police said.

A Met Office spokesman added: “Officers are in the process of informing his next of kin. No arrests have been made.”
