London is officially the millionaire capital of the world - with the city housing more of the world’s rich than New York and Tokyo.

A study by New World Wealth revealed almost 3 per cent of the city’s population, or roughly 395,000 individuals, have net assets of more than $1million - about £593,000.

Comparatively, 2 per cent of people living in Tokyo can boast the same fortune and 1.6 per cent of New Yorkers.

Hong Kong, Singapore and Los Angeles were also included in the top ten.

Furthermore, the Johannesburg-based organisation found London had the third highest number of multimillionaires, or those with at least £6million assets, with 9,700 living in the city. In those stakes, Hong Kong topped the table with 15,400 and New York came second with 14,300.

Luxury goods databases, figures on prime property, private jets and yacht buyers pus public director sand company information was used to compile the list.

Last month, another study suggested the total wealth of London’s richest was about £763billion.

Research shows the number of multimillionaires worldwide has increased by 71 per cent in the past decade - with the number of millionaires up 58 per cent.
