A woman has been rushed to hospital after a huge blaze broke out at a flat in west London.

Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters raced to the scene on Hammersmith Grove just before 1.30pm on Thursday as photos showed black smoke pouring from the building.

London Fire Brigade (LFB) said part of a fifth floor flat in the eight-storey block was damaged by the flames.

One woman suffering shock was taken to hospital by ambulance, the brigade said in a statement.

LFB station Station Commander, Dan Johnson, who was at the scene said: "Firefighters were faced with a very well developed fire on arrival.

"The smoke was very visible from the outside of the building and resulted in our Control Officers taking 17 calls to the blaze.
