The man who helped mastermind Olympic glory for Team GB’s equestrians is preparing for his next challenge — getting horses to jump through fire.

Dickie Waygood is pitting chargers from the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment against the Royal Signals’ White Helmets motorbike display team in a show-stopping highlight of the British Military Tournament.

The retired major, who served with the Life Guards and was the Household Cavalry’s riding master, was the team manager of the British equestrians who won two gold medals in dressage.

More than 50,000 tickets went on sale today for the annual show at Earl’s Court, which has a Diamond Jubilee theme.

Creative director Christopher Joll said of Mr Waygood: “He says that where horses are concerned, you can teach them to do anything — provided you teach it the right way.”
