Four Christmas light designs are on the shortlist in Oxford Street competition

1/4

Designs inspired by the Northern Lights and flocks of birds are on the shortlist for this year’s Christmas lights display in Oxford Street.

They are two of four entries for the final stage of the first contest to design the display.

The Swarm, which mimics a mass of birds, is from Germany’s Herr Meier Licht and Austria’s MK Illumination.

KaleidoSCAPE, inspired by the Northern Lights, has been produced by Southwark-based Gia Equation, with Peter Fink Studio, Harry Dobbs Design & Eckersley O’Callaghan.

The final two entries are The Polar Christmas, a Portuguese design from the Castro lighting studio, and a design inspired by the North Pole from Soho practice 3D Reid.

The winner is chosen in May and lights go on in November.
