A female protest group have invaded a town hall in east London.

Sisters Uncut campaigners burst onto a balcony at Hackney Town Hall this afternoon and hurled powder paint into the street below.

Scores of supporters waved flags and banners in front of the building during the demo which was hailed as a “celebration of the group’s recent success".

A post on the group’s Facebook page said the event was held to celebrate a “host of victories” over a bid to reclaim social housing in the borough.

It read: “Sisters, including sisters from Marian Court estate launched a series of negotations with acting Mayor Phil Glanville and have smashed it winning a whole host of victories including (an) agreement to fill and do up all empty units in Marian Court by Christmas.

"(We have also secured an) agreement to fill and do up all empty units in Hackney by this time next year.”

Hackney Council have been contacted for a comment.
