O2 Arena stunt ‘urban explorers’ ordered to remove online films

Danger: Ryan Taylor on the O2 dome

Three “urban explorers” who filmed themselves scaling the O2 Arena have been ordered to remove the online footage to avoid copycat incidents.

Ally Law, Ryan Taylor and Rikke Brewer were part of a group that climbed the London landmark last July.

The resulting YouTube video was seen by more than eight million people. Law is seen performing back flips on top of the dome and fleeing security guards before police arrived.

In January, High Court judge Geoffrey Tattersall issued an injunction banning the trio from the O2, but refused to order them to take down the YouTube videos because that would curtail their “freedom of expression”.

However, lawyers for the O2’s owners, AEG Europe, returned to court on Friday and successfully argued for a second injunction, banning the climbers from posting videos for two years and ordering them to remove online films.

Donal Kelly, a senior associate at Osborne Clarke, which sought the injunctions, said: “The right to freedom of expression that urban explorers might rely on should not outweigh the potential for harm to the public.”
