Sixty firefighters are tackling a blaze at a maisonette in central London.

Eight crews were called to the building in Bath Street, Old Street, at 6.53pm on Monday evening.

A maisonette on the seventh and eighth floor of the residential building is alight, a spokesman for the London Fire Brigade said.

Video footage from the scene shows smoke billowing from the windows of the flat.

At least 100 people have been evacuated from the building.

There are no reports of any injuries.

Station Commander Mark Jordan, who is at the scene, said: "The fire is in a split level maisonette and crews are making steady progress.

"There are no reports of any injuries. Around 100 people evacuated the block before firefighters arrived."

The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.
