The exclusive Playboy Club in Mayfair began a weekend of celebrations on Friday to mark its 50th anniversary.

A party was held at the London club to mark five decades since Playboy came to the capital in 1966.

Former Bunny, Gill Ball, said: “Everybody wanted to be a Bunny, it was just the thing back then. It was a dream come true and you met all the rich and famous people.”

Gill was a Bunny during the heyday of the club and remembers attending Marvin Gaye’s birthday party and mixing with the high society of London

She said: “Every Wimbledon we met all the players and the footballers came in almost every night.”

The current club has been running since 2011, replacing the original venue that closed down in 1981 after the gaming authorities revoked its licence.

Managing Director at Caesars Entertainment UK, Mike Rothwell, said: “The Mayfair market is a little bit dull, where is I think Playboy is unique. It’s got international recognition, it’s fun, it’s exciting and it’s a little bit different.”

The celebrations continue this weekend with 320 former bunnies gathering at the Hippodrome Casino in Leicester Square for a reunion this Sunday.
