A celebrity hairdresser who was injured in a fall while on holiday in Egypt was forced to leave intensive care 48 hours after coming out of a coma because he ran out of money.

Sean O’Sullivan, 44, slipped on a marble floor outside a restaurant in Sharm el-Sheikh during a 10-day break with partner Aaron Rose, 34.

Three days later, Mr O’Sullivan, who owns Tidy Hair in Brixton and whose clients include singer Marc Almond, was taken to the Sinai Clinic Hospital with headaches and slurred speech.

Doctors said he had suffered two brain haemorrhages and gave him a 50 per cent chance of survival.

Mr O’Sullivan went into a coma for 48 hours, but two days after waking up had to leave because he was uninsured and could not afford the £700-a-night ward.

He is now living in a flat and being treated as an outpatient, and friends have raised almost £3,000 in an online appeal to help him pay medical bills of more than £5,000.

Friend Miles Pearsall, 33, said: “I would have thought at a hospital they can’t just let you go like that, but they did.”

The hospital could not be reached for comment.
