A young man was beaten to death with an iron bar during a street brawl in Willesden, the Old Bailey heard today.

Mustafa Farah, 24, from Camden, was left fighting for his life after the alleged attack outside Willesden bus garage on June 4.

It is said he was struck over the head with an iron bar during the Willesden High Road clash, at 3.20am, and died from his injuries eight days later.

Elmi Awil, 21, appeared in the dock at the Old Bailey this morning to face charges of murder and possession of an offensive weapon.

He was originally charged with attacking Mr Farah but the charge was changed to murder after his death.

"This case arises out of an incident that took place on June 4 in Willesden", said prosecutor Peter Finnigan QC.

"Two groups of young men came together, there was an incident which involved the use of an iron bar.

"The victim collapsed at the scene, he was treated and taken to hospital and he died a few days later."

Awil, of no fixed address, was remanded in custody today until a plea hearing at a late date.

He did not enter pleas today.
