A woman was left with tyre marks on her jaw line after a mugger threw his bike at her in west London.

Mark Weirich also hit his 33-year-old victim with her own handbag as she tried to wrestle it back from him in Sutton Lane North, Chiswick.

But despite doing her best to fend him off, he stole the bag and cycled away after the brutal attack on April 14, leaving her sprawled on the pavement.

She was taken to hospital for treatment and has since made a "good recovery", police said today.

Police tracked her attacker down ten days later and charged him after she picked him out in an identity parade.

Weirich, 38, of Starfield Road, Shepherds Bush, admitted one count of robbery at Kingston Upon Thames Crown Court and was jailed for four years on September 2.

Detective Constable Matt McGreig, who led the investigation for Hounslow Police, said: "The level of force used against the victim is shocking and I pay tribute to her courage in coming forward and being instrumental in the identification of Weirich.

"I am pleased that the courts have recognised the seriousness of the offence and the overwhelming evidence against Weirich who will now have to face the consequences of his appalling actions behind bars."
