A moped rider was today seriously injured in hospital after a hit and run in south London.

Police said the 41-year-old suffered serious leg injuries after the crash in East Dulwich Road at around 6.35am on Sunday.

The black Renault Clio car that was also involved did not stop at the scene, detectives said.

It was later found abandoned - with damage to its front end - in Lapse Wood Walk.

A 20-year-old woman was later arrested in Sydenham on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision.

Detective Sergeant Matt Austin said: "We are appealing for any witnesses to, or anyone with any information about, the collision to contact us.

"We are also keen to hear from anyone who would have seen a significantly damaged car being abandoned in Lapse Wood Walk, SE23.

"Anyone with any information that could assist us are asked to call our witness line on 020 8285 1574."
