A 64-year-old woman was stabbed multiple times at a support centre for care workers in south London last night.

Police have arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder after the attack in Croydon Carers’ Support Centre, George Street, at 6.30pm yesterday.

The woman was taken to a south London hospital with multiple stand wounds and her injuries are said to be not life-threatening.

Scotland Yard said they believe the attacker and victim are “known to each other” and are not seeking anyone else in connection with the attack.

The man remains in custody at a south London police station.

Croydon Carers’ Support Centre, which is run by charity the Whitgift Foundation, was closed this afternoon.

A spokeswoman said: “The offices in the upper floors of the Carers’ Support Centre are let to a number of local voluntary carer organisations.

“Last night, a domestic incident took place in one of the offices. Police are currently investigating the situation and we are helping them with their enquiries whilst supporting staff and colleagues.

“We anticipate that the Centre will be open tomorrow.”
