Two men have been arrested after throwing themselves from a block of flats to escape police after a 74-year-old woman was left tied up during a burglary.
The pensioner was seen being forced back into the flats in Bruton Place, Westminster, central London, at around 5.30pm yesterday.
Two suspects were seen climbing out of a window in the four-storey block. One jumped from a balcony onto the flat roof of a neighbouring building and and ran off.
The 34-year-old was tracked via CCTV and arrested near Oxford Circus.
The second man, aged 42, jumped two floors to a nearby building and broke both his ankles.
Two men have been arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary.
Inspector Paul Arnold said: “I would like to commend not only the actions of my officers and the CCTV operators, but also the quick thinking of the member of the public who spotted two men attempting to burgle the woman’s home.
“Thankfully the victim wasn’t injured and the items stolen from the property have been recovered.”
