Police have discovered a terrifying 18-inch sword during a routine weapons sweep in Greenwich.

The sinister-looking weapon – which has spikes on either side of the blade - was found by officers in south east London on Sunday night.

MPS Specials Tweeted: “14-hour duty by #Greenwich Specials leads to recovery of stolen vehicle and another dangerous weapon taken off the streets.”

Police said the sword is 45cm long in total, with the blade alone measuring 27cm.

The account posted the picture of the weapon just hours after sharing another picture of a kitchen knife that had been seized.

They wrote: “Intelligence lead weapons sweep by #Greenwich Specials results in another knife being removed from the streets today.”

A police spokesman confirmed that no arrests has been made but investigations were ongoing.
