A teenage boy remains in hospital four days after he was hit by a police car which was responding to an emergency call.

The 17-year-old was knocked down by a marked squad car with its blue lights flashing in Holloway Road in the early hours of Saturday.

He was in hospital in a stable condition on Wednesday morning.

The incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission, the police watchdog.

The officer was also taken to hospital but was discharged.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: “The marked police car was on route to an emergency call at the time of the collision and was using blue lights at the time of the incident.

“As a matter of routine the matter has been referred to the IPCC.”

The IPCC has yet to confirm whether it will launch a formal investigation. A spokesman for the watchdog said the case was "now being assessed to determine the level of IPCC involvement".

The accident happened at about 1.15am on Saturday, close to the junction with Parkhurst Road.
