A dinner lady who featured in a schools guide issued to thousands of families in London has appeared in court charged with child neglect.

Benedicta Amadarkoa, 40, allegedly left three youngsters aged six, eight and 10 “home alone” for 90 minutes.

The mother of four appeared in Islington council’s guide to primary schools in 2012 and was quoted in it, saying: “The teachers are friendly and they’ve really helped my son with his learning. His reading has really improved.”

Before working as a school dinner lady she was a baker at a Co-op supermarket.

She faces three counts of ill treatment or neglect of the children in a manner likely to cause unnecessary suffering or injury to health last April.

Amadarkoa chose trial by jury after denying all three allegations at Highbury Corner magistrates’ court.

District Judge Nicholas Rimmer freed her on unconditional bail to appear at Blackfriars crown court on February 6.
