Three pranksters who posed for selfies on the pitch at Tottenham's White Hart Lane stadium have been banned from attending football matches until 2018.

Nathaniel Thompson, 23, Helder Gomes, 22, and Daniel Jarvis, 26, were arrested after bizarre scenes during Tottenham Hotspur's Uefa Europa League clash with Partizan Belgrade on November 27.

The match had to be suspended shortly before half-time after the men ran on to the pitch at the north London club.

Gomes and Thompson were held by stewards and Jarvis was tackled by a player.

All three men pleaded guilty at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court today to a charge of entering a playing field without lawful excuse or authority.

The court heard Thompson was the first on to the pitch at 8.25pm, and he took pictures of himself in front of players as he tried to evade football officials. Gomes ran on four minutes later and lost his shirt in the melee.

Last came Jarvis, who was crash-tackled by Spurs midfielder Moussa Dembele.

The prosectuor said: "As he was escorted from the pitch, fans were screaming and projectiles were thrown from the stands."

She said a video later surfaced on YouTube which showed the trio "stating that they'd had a competition as to who could stay on the pitch the longest".

She said that in an interview with police Thompson explained he had been following through on a dare from friends.

Although all three men were wearing BassBuds T-shirts, the court heard that the stunt was not sanctioned by the headphone manufacturer.

Altaf Mohammed, defending, said his clients had been handing out headphones to crowds outside the match as part of a promotion.

They were given tickets to the game and made a spur-of-the-moment decision to storm the pitch.

He said: "They were basically doing voluntary work - it's only once they entered the stadium that they decided to do what they did." He added that all three were "ashamed" of their behaviour.

The men were ordered to pay £155 each and will be subject to football banning orders for three years but can apply to have them lifted after two years.

Chairman Mervyn Mandell told the men: "You will be committing an offence if you break any of the requirements and you could be immediately sent to prison."
