Police have identified one of two women found in a freezer in a Canning Town flat as a mother-of-three.

Scotland Yard revealed this evening that the woman was Mihrican Mustafa, aged 38, who also went by the name MJ.

She was based in the Canning Town area in east London and had been reported missing by police on May 10 last year. Officers had been working to find her.

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Harding said: “We are now confident that one of the females found is MJ. As you can imagine, this is a devastating time for her family and we would ask for their privacy to be respected.

“MJ was reported missing in May 2018. As yet we don’t know when she died; a post-mortem examination is ongoing.

“I would appeal for anyone who knew MJ and may have information about what happened to her and in particular her association with the address in Vandrome Close where she was found to come forward."

Police said enquiries to identify the second woman were ongoing.

A spokesman added that officers were "working to build up a comprehensive picture of activity that took place at the address".

The apartment is believed to have been used by “transient members of the community” and had been linked to drugs.

A man has been charged with preventing lawful burial after the bodies were found in a freezer at the flat in Vandome Close last week.

Zarhid Younis, 34, appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

A 50-year-old who was arrested on suspicion of murder has been released under investigation.

Police previously said that post-mortems on the two bodies were due to take place on Friday.
