Ridley Road shooting: Thirteen arrests and man in hospital following firearms incident on Dalston market street

Thirteen people have been arrested following a shooting on a popular market street in Dalston this afternoon.

A man, said to be in his 30s, has been taken to hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg. The Metropolitan Police said he was in a serious but stable condition.

A spokeswoman said officers were called to the Hackney street shortly after 2pm following reports of gunfire.

"Local officers attended along with an armed response unit," she said.

"The London Ambulance Service (LAS) were also called.

"A man, believed to be in his 30s, was found at the location with a gun shot wound to his leg.

"He has been taken to an east London hospital by LAS and is currently in a serious but stable condition.

"A search of the area was conducted resulting in thirteen arrests being made for a number of offences.

"A firearm has been recovered by police."

Residents of Ridley Road as well as those from surrounding streets, such as Sandringham Road and Colvestone Crescent, reported a large police presence as other roads were shut amid an investigation.

Some took to Twitter to comment on the incident.
