A man was beaten and stabbed in a broad daylight attack just yards from a popular park.

The 41-year-old man was stabbed in the leg in front of parents with their children in Tooting Bec Common, south London.

He was assaulted in Drakefield Road, at the junction with Elmbourne Road, on the edge of the common at around 4.45pm on Sunday.

Scotland Yard said no arrests have been made.

A large area of the common was cordoned off last night as police continue to probe the attack.

A Met Police spokesman said: “Police were called by London Ambulance Service at 16:47hrs on Sunday, 12 October to reports of an assault on Drakefield Road junction with Elmbourne Road.

“Officers attended. A 41-year-old man was taken to a hospital suffering from stab injuries to his leg. He remains in a stable condition. His injuries are not life-threatening.”
