A man had his hand chopped off near a nightclub in Essex during an evening out with friends.

The victim, who is aged in his 20s, was allegedly attacked with a large knife near NuBar in Loughton on Friday evening by a group of thugs, police said.

He was taken to hospital where his condition was described as "life-changing".

Detectives have said they believe the horrific attack on November 6 may have been a targeted assault.

Police have arrested a 30-year-old man from Grays on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was seen running from the scene by a PCSO at about 11.30pm.

They are searching for up to three more suspects who are thought to have fled the scene in a black Audi A8, which was found on fire in Horseshoe Close, Waltham Abbey on Saturday morning.

Anyone with information can contact police on 101.
