A man is fighting for life after he was attacked outside a busy south London Tube station in front of shocked commuters.

Police and paramedics sped to the scene outside Tooting Broadway station at around 7.45pm on Tuesday following reports of an assault.

A 51-year-old man was found lying unconscious after he was attacked by another man, police said.

He was rushed to a hospital in south London where he remains in a critical condition.

Images posted on social media show a police cordon in place directly outside the station, with police cars and officers carrying out their investigations.

Jus Jayde shared a photo of police tape strung up around the station, tweeting: "What's this madness in Tooting Broadway about?"

A Scotland Yard spokesman said no arrests have been made so far.
