A man has been detained after "threatening to set himself on fire" at a west London petrol station.

Police closed Staines Road around an Esso garage in Hounslow after reports of a man threatening to self harm at around 5.30pm this evening.

The man, aged in his 20s, was detained, a Scotland Yard spokesman said.

Reports suggested the man had doused himself with petrol and threatened to set fire to himself.

Crews from the London Fire Brigade and the London Ambulance Service also attended.

Staines Road was reopened within around two hours, Transport for London said.
