A London Underground commuter was attacked and injured during a rush hour row on a busy escalator.

The 31-year-old victim was walking up the left hand side of the escalator in Victoria Station when he encountered two men blocking his path.

He first asked them to move but then when they refused tried to push past. There was an argument and the man was attacked and punched in the face suffering a suspected broken eye socket.

British Transport Police said officers arrested two men after the incident on Thursday, December 20.

A BTP spokeswoman said: “Officers were called to Victoria London Underground station following reports of a man being assaulted on an escalator.

“Officers attended the incident, which was reported at 5.17pm and arrested two men, aged 40 and 45, on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

“The victim, a 31-year-old man, was taken to hospital with an eye injury.”

Both men have been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Police appealed for witnesses to the assault and asked anyone with information to call 0800 40 50 quoting 423 of 20/12/2012.
